26th SEAG To Be Coached By Torre

Secretary General Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines announced that possible Grand Master Eugene Torre will coach the Philippine Chess team for the 26th South East Asian Games this coming November 11-25 at Palambang Jakarta Indonesia.

"GM Torre is well-respected as a chess master not only in the country but also in Asia and in the world, he will be a perfect choice to coach our delegates to the SEA Games" he also added. "No one deserves it more than him".

The 59 year old Grand Master wanted to see the newly chess aspirants of the Philippines. "The young guys should play in the SEA Games especially since there is a rapid event there where we know our players are strong at." Torre added.

"I am not ready for a retirement. I will just coach the Phillipine Chess Team".

The Philippines do have 14th Grand Master as of this time namely Eugene Torre, Wesley So, Mark Paragua, John Paul Gomez, Darwin Laylo, Roland Salvador, the late Rosendo Balinas, JOey Antonio, Jayson Gonzales, Joseph Sanchez, Banjo Villamayor and the eldest Nelson Mariano II.
